A once in a lifetime opportunity.....

Picture

A group of Henry Maynard pupils had the wonderful opportunity to take part in the opening ceremony of the Olympic games. They attended lengthy rehearsals over several weeks, and their families and friends were able to watch them in the technical rehearsal, which took place on the night before the actual event.

They were dressed as Victorian children and paraded around the arena carrying balloons. When the time came for the ceremony to officially start ten pupils held the balloons which popped as the countdown took place.

Olympic torch comes to school

Alun North, Headteacher is pictured here holding the olympic torch. All the children (and staff) had the opportunity to have their photos taken with it.

"HUNDREDS of children got into the Olympic spirit when they took part in their own home-made torch relay running between a group of Walthamstow schools.

Pupils dashed through the streets from Henry Maynard Infants in Maynard Road, before heading to its junior school building in nearby Addison Road, and then on to Our Lady and St George's Catholic Primary in Shernhall Street, during the event earlier this month.

The relay was a faithful recreation of the real thing, with each torchbearer specially chosen for their athletic or academic achievements, and the route was lined with flag-waving supporters. "
