Swimming

Leyton Baths was the original swimming pool used by the school, for lessons. Sadly this beautiful building was demolished and replaced by Tescos in Leyton High Road and Leyton Leisure Lagoon was built instead. At one time the Borough owned their own fleet of buses for use to ferry schools to sports venues around the Borough, so the pupils going swimming were taken there by bus. Following cutbacks the school has used a variety of venues, which the pupils now need to walk to, including the Waltham Forest College pool, Forest School pool, and Walthamstow swimming pool - which is now the Feel Good Centre.
At one time - up to the 1990's, there were annual swimming galas which were always popular. Below are some of the teams from the Maynard Road Junior boys school (1962 and 1963).

Sports Days

School Sports days are a great opportunity for all pupils to participate. The photos  of Henry Maynard shown above are at the Walthamstow Pool and track (now Feelgood Centre) in 2010. However, there have also been inter Borough sports (with various names)  for over forty years which keeps all the schools in competitive mode. Needless to say, Henry Maynard always enter with a positive spirit, but aim to win - and often do!

The Borough have also had their own equivalent of Paralympics and in the early 2000's three of our pupils took part. Here are Mahayre, Maryam and Carl proudly pictured with their medals and certificates.
